Whether your Chrome is stuck in black or dark mode or you want to change the theme of Chrome, here you will find the answer for both. If you are facing an issue where the font color is the same as that of the background color of Chrome, the following tips will help you in fixing that too. So let’s check out the various methods to change Chrome color.
1. Apply a Different Theme
Earlier, one had to take the help of third-party themes to change the color of Google Chrome. But, a few months back, Google introduced its own set of themes for Chrome. So, you should change the theme to one of the official themes to either fix the issue in your current theme or to simply change the background color. You can even try other third-party themes. To change the Chrome theme, follow these steps: Step 1: Launch Chrome and go to the Themes page on the Chrome store. Step 2: You will find various themes listed there, starting with Chrome’s bunch of themes. Click on the theme that you want to apply. Step 3: Click on Add to Chrome for the theme that you want to use. That’s it. You will get a new look for your Chrome.
2. Switch Back to Original Chrome Theme
Sometimes, there is an issue with your current theme, so instead of changing it to some other theme, you should try resetting it to its default value. You can use this method to revert to the original Chrome theme too. Here’s how to do it. Step 1: In Chrome, click on the three-dot icon at the top and select Settings. Alternatively, open chrome://settings/. Step 2: Scroll down to the Appearance section. You will find the Themes option. Click on Reset to default to switch back to the original Chrome theme.
3. Change System Theme
On both macOS and Windows, Chrome’s color also changes when you change your system theme. So you should try this method for changing the color or reverting to the original color.
Change Chrome Theme on Windows
Step 1: Go to system Settings from the Start Menu. Step 2: Click on Personalization. Step 3: Click on Colors. Step 4: Here comes the interesting part. You need to choose a theme style from the drop-down box under Choose your color. You get three options — Light, Dark, and Custom. If you go with the former, all the supported apps and Windows interface will have a light theme. Similarly, choosing Dark will apply the black color to both. In case you only want to change the color for supported apps such as Chrome and leave the Windows color untouched or vice versa, go with the Custom option. Once selected, two new drop-down boxes will appear. Select your theme preference under ‘Choose your default app mode’ to apply it to Chrome and other supported apps.
Change Chrome Theme on Mac
Step 1: Click on the Apple menu at the top and choose System Preferences from it. Step 2: Click on General. Step 3: Choose your theme for Chrome from the available options under Appearance. Please note that it will change your entire macOS’s theme. Check out how to change Chrome’s theme without changing the Mac theme.
4. Turn off High Contrast
If you see a mismatch between the font and theme color on Chrome, you should try turning off the high contrast mode. To do so on Windows PC, follow these steps: Step 1: Open Settings on your PC and click on Ease of Access. Step 2: Click on High contrast from the left sidebar. Then, turn off the toggle next to ‘Turn on high contrast.’
Color Your Life
The theme will not apply the color changes to the web pages. They are limited to the tabs, bookmarks bar, and similar areas. In case the above methods don’t change or reset the color of Chrome, you should try resetting Chrome settings.
