indie games but last year Apple took another step to dominate this field. It officially released support for third party controllers baked into iOS 7. Prior to which you had to download jailbreak tweaks and map the buttons yourself to play games with your controller. Right now, there are many Apple certified controllers available on the market and some of them are not half bad. The library of games compatible with MFi (Made For iPhone) controllers is ever expanding but they still cost around $100. That’s a little steep for a controller. Fear not though, because the gaming overlords of the jailbreak world have brought upon us a wonderful tweak that allows us to pair the controller most of us already have, Dual Shock 3 ( support for Dual Shock 4 and other controllers is coming) to any iOS device. If you’ve ever tried to play an FPS game on your iPad using touch controls, you’ll really appreciate what this tweak does.

How To Connect You Controller With Your iPhone Or iPad

First things first, make sure you are running iOS 7, jailbroken and have Cydia installed. Next, add the Modmyi repo (apt.modmyi.com) if you haven’t already. Now search for “Controllers For All”. The utility costs $1.99, totally worth the money if you ask me. Once you have downloaded and installed Controllers For All, we need to pair the PS3 controller with your iOS device. For this you will need a Mac or a PC. I used a Mac and the process took less than a minute. Here’s how it goes.

For Mac:

Download the Sixaxis utility from here.Connect your PS3 controller via USB and do the same for your iOS device.Once connected, launch Sixaxis, click on the button that says Pair Contoller To iPad and you are done.

For PC:

The process here is on similar lines:

First, you need to download and install SixasixPairTool from here.Connect your PS3 controller and your iOS device to your PCNow run SixasixPairTool and tap in your iOS device Bluetooth address (you can find it in Settings > General > About > Bluetooth). After that, click Update, disconnect your controller and you are done!

Once you’ve done that, you’ll need to go into settings and disable Bluetooth because Controllers For All uses BTstack.

Happy Gaming

Now all that’s left to do is fire a MFi compatible game and wait for the notification that asks you to press the PS button. There are lots of really good games like Asphalt 8, Into The Dead, Angry Birds Go, Riptide GP2 and many many more that have supported controllers out of the box.
