Today we’ll explore some hidden and some not-so-hidden settings related to the Play Store app and website to make your Android life a little bit easier.

Play Store App Settings

1. Turn Off Automatic Downloads

If you’re on a limited broadband plan and find your Android phone using unnecessary bandwidth, there’s a way to disable auto updates over Wi-Fi. Go to Settings -> Auto-update apps and select Do not auto-update apps.

2. Parental Control

To make sure your kid isn’t exploring adult content on the Play Store, go to Settings -> Allow apps rated for and choose Low maturity.

3. App Return Window

You’ll be happy to know that the Play Store has increased the app return window from 15 minutes to 2 hours. Which means you now have 2 hours to ask for a full refund in case there’s a problem with the app you bought.

4. Disable Shortcuts For Every App Installed

Every time you install a new app, a shortcut shows up on your homescreen. Annoying, isn’t it? From Settings, disable Add icon to Homescreen to get rid of them.

5. Require Password For Every Purchase

The Play Store requires you to enter a password when you initially make a purchase, but then doesn’t bug you for the next 30 minutes. For added security go to Settings -> Require password for purchases and select For all purchases. If you don’t like to be bugged every time, use the Never option.

Play Store Website

1. Edit Device Details

Go to Play.google.com/settings to get an overview of all the devices linked to your account. While there’s no way to directly delete devices, you can hide them from install menus and update them right from here.

2. Track Your Orders

To see an overview of all your past purchases, go to this URL. This page will make it easier to track purchases made using your account.

3. Track Your Device And Wipe Data Using Android Device Manager

Cool Tip: As long as you have Android Device Manager installed on your phone, you can track its location from anywhere in the world. The website can also be used to wipe data remotely as soon as the device in online. In case it’s lost, you can ring it from here or lock it, putting up a personalized message on screen encouraging the return of the device.
