To check if your ISP is providing you the broadband speed it promised you can take the help of certain online tools. There are services which not only check the speed but also the overall quality of your connection by testing it on different parameters. Here we have compiled a list of 5 such effective tools which help in determining the actual internet speed and quality by testing servers at different locations across the world. Check them out.

Speedtest.net

Speedtest.net is probably the most popular online broadband speed testing tool. You can select a server (It suggests you the best one) and hit the “Begin Test” button to start the test. It will download and upload files and then show the download and upload connection speeds. You may choose a different server and check the speed again. You could also compare your result with others and share it using the given image links. Have a look at their World Results section to check bandwidth speeds by country. You can sort broadband speeds according to various locations within a country.

Speed.io

Speed.io is another broadband speed test tool which not only tests the internet speed but also shows the number of connections per minute and average ping time. It can test slower connection (GPRS, ISDN) as well as fast connections like DSl2+ or VDSL / fiber internet. It downloads files from 3 different servers simultaneously and shows the internet speed after combining the results from all of them. It checks the factors like download speed, stability and response time of the internet connection and evaluates the result on a scale of “Excellent” to bad.

Pingtest.net

Pingtest.net is a broadband quality analyzer. It performs test (by testing packet loss, ping and jitter) and displays results which inform about capability of internet connection to handle things like voice services (VoIP), streaming music or video, telecommuting or online gaming. You can share and compare your test result with others. The tool is by the same folks who created speedtest.net.

Down Tester

Down Tester is different from all the above mentioned tools. It is a Windows-only software that checks your internet download speed (but not the upload speed) in multiple locations around the world. It offers both portable version and the installer file. Using this tool is simple. Download the zip file. Extract the downtester.exe file on your computer and open the tool. Now go to File> Add URL list. Add the download URL of any site. You can go to different websites which offer files to download. Copy the download file location and paste it into the list. Add five to ten such URLs. Click on “Start test download” button to start the test. The tool doesn’t download files from random servers across the world, instead, it allows you to choose them. It then downloads them from your specified servers and gives the result accordingly.

BandwidthPlace

BandwidthPlace is the simplest of all. The only thing you need to do is click  “Start test” button. No choosing of servers or anything like that. After completing the test, it will show the result in Kbps. Also, at the bottom it displays last test result and time on which it performed that test. So those were some of the most efficient tools to check your broadband speed and quality. You could use their results as an evidence if your ISP is unwilling to accept that it provides low quality connection. Have you used any of the above mentioned tools? Which one’s your favorite among them? Know about other such tools? Speak your thoughts in the comments.
